Leave Your Mark Spotlight:  Megan's Journey to Missions in Kenya

Written by Dana Massey | January 26, 2026

Some callings take root early.  For Megan Parham, one of this year's Leave Your Mark Grant recipients, that moment came at age 15 on her first mission trip.  What began in a homeless shelter in Buffalo would eventually lead her across the world to Kenya, where she now serves as a full-time missionary alongside her husband and growing family.

Her story is one of steady obedience, long waiting, and a wholehearted yes to God's timing.

How Megan Became a Missionary

After years as a youth pastor and short-term trip leader, Megan joined The World Race in 2012 — an 11-month journey that took her to Kenya for the first time. Something in her spirit settled there, though she sensed God saying, "not yet".  For 10 years, she prayed and waited. Finally in 2021, she received the unmistakable green light to move to Kenya full-time. Today, she calls Mombasa home, raising her children on the mission field while serving alongside her Kenyan husband.

What Their Ministry Looks Like Today

Megan’s ministry centers on two passions: reaching the lost and training believers. Everything they do flows from that heartbeat.

Their work includes:

  • Teaching and discipling at a Bible school

  • Overseeing 100+ churches and a growing church-planting movement

  • Muslim outreach in coastal communities

  • Leading remote evangelism trips to unreached villages

  • Digging wells in impoverished areas with limited water access

  • Hosting mission teams and leading outreaches

  • Supporting New Dawn Africa, a home for 20 abused or orphaned girls, including raising funds for a much-needed ministry vehicle

Their ministry has grown rapidly and faster than they ever expected; but, always with a posture Megan describes as keeping "a yes in our hearts for whatever God asks."

The Leave Your Mark Moment

Megan knew about the Leave Your Mark campaign for years but never applied.  This year, a last-minute reminder, what she calls a "Holy Spirit nudge", prompted her to submit the application just before the deadline.

Winning the grant will support some of their biggest needs, especially transportation for the girls' home and funding for additional water well projects and outreach efforts.

It also arrived during a season when fundraising from overseas has been challenging, and provided both financial help and deep encouragement.
